High School Summer Programs

Notre Dame de Sion High School offers a variety of sports camps, academic courses, and college preparatory workshops to expand and enhance your skill set!
 
Sion Sports Camps create opportunities for girls in grades 4 - 8 to develop skills through individual instruction and peer interaction in the sport of their choice. Our dedicated team of coaches prepares athletes to fulfill their potential on the court and the field.
 
Sion's Summer Academic Programming has expanded to include new opportunities and camps for girls in grades 4-8. Our 3 week programs, Dimensions in Visual Arts for grades 7-12 and High School Bridge for incoming 9th graders, are offered every summer; along with the College Essay & Applications Workshops for rising seniors. All courses will take place at the High School campus.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
We understand that summer plans can change and we will do our best to work with families if you need to cancel your registration. For a full refund, camp must be canceled at least one week prior to the start date. If the cancellation occurs 6 days or less before camp starts, you will receive a 50% refund of registration costs. Should there be extenuating circumstances outside of your control, please contact Emily Jenkins directly.

  • Summer DIVA Program

    Dimensions in Visual Art (DIVA) is a class for the beginning high school art student. Students will use a variety of materials and be guided in expression, creativity, and refining problem-solving skills to increase visual vocabulary and individual style. This course is open to any student in grades 7-12. Students who are entering the 7th or 8th grade in 2024 and who are interested in attending Sion High School may also enroll.

  • Summer High School Bridge Program

    Notre Dame de Sion has provided an exemplary academic program to young women in the Kansas City area for over 110 years! We are thrilled to welcome the Class of 2029 to be part of this tradition.  To ensure a smooth academic transition from middle school to high school, Sion offers the High School Bridge Program. This program is designed to equip incoming 9th graders with the tools they need to navigate a new academic environment and familiarize themselves with the rigor of the Sion curriculum.  Students must be registered for the incoming Sion High School 9th grade to enroll in Summer Bridge Pre-Algebra and/or English. In the English course students will complete one of the summer reading novels and will produce a written response to the literature. For both classes, a written evaluation of each student will be provided to the parents at the end of the session. These evaluations will be used as a tool in supporting students in the upcoming year. Attendance is important. Students are allowed to miss up to two class periods.

  • Sewing & Fibers with Ms. Mahlik

    Come try various hand-sewing & fiber techniques like embroidery, cross-stitch, weaving, basketry, crochet, and quilting.  Get creative with color choice, design layout, and relax into the rhythm of age-old handiwork and crafts.

  • Words Come Alive: Playwriting, Creative Writing, and Acting with Ali Jordan

    Students will explore the creative process through hands-on activities, including writing short stories and plays, developing characters, and learning the basics of acting. From brainstorming ideas to playing acting games, each participant will have the opportunity to create, collaborate, and perform in a supportive and dynamic environment. We will end the week with an interactive mystery party where we must solve a crime in character.

  • Chess Camp, presented by Kansas City Chess Club

    Welcome to Chess Camp with our community partners at Kansas City Chess Club! Whether you're a seasoned player or complete newbie, this camp is the perfect way to sharper your skills at the board. Designed to introduce youth to chess strategy and tactics while having fun, The Kansas City Chess Club Coaches will show beginners through advanced students how to improve their play. Daily activities will include casual play, chess lessons and training exercises, National Rated competition games, building Lego chess sets and chessboards, Bughouse and Fischer Random Chess, Pokémon, and Minecraft. Each student will receive a chess workbook, chess medal, and chess set.

  • College Application Completion Workshop

    Ready to apply to college? Summer is the ideal time to prepare for senior year without the commitments, distractions, and workload of the school year. Join Sion’s college counselors for a half-day bootcamp aimed at helping ​seniors complete and – if ready – submit their college applications before school starts​.

    Whether you plan to submit the Common Application to several colleges or apply directly to your schools of choice using college-specific applications, ​you’ll receive the support you need​ to sit down and complete your applications. Counselors will help guide you through each section of the Common App and will be on hand to answer any questions as you navigate each application.
     
    The College Application Bootcamp  will be facilitated by Sion’s college counselors, Erin Hughes and Heather Henning. Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Henning bring a collective 16 years of college admission and 22 years of college counseling experience. In their roles at William Jewell College (Hughes) and the University of Missouri (Henning), they reviewed countless applications and are well equipped to guide students through the application completion and submission process.

  • College Essay and Resume Clinic

    Want to get a jumpstart on the college application process and lighten your load for the fall? Summer is the perfect time to prepare for your senior year without the commitments, distractions, and workload of the school year. Take time to hone your “voice” through the writing process and receive constructive feedback on your essay and resume from college admissions professionals. The clinic will last six days, 2.5 hours per day. Sessions are limited and spots are given on a first-come basis.  Priority is given to students currently enrolled at Sion, but students from other schools may apply. The fee includes the text: On Writing the College Application Essay.

    Join us for a week of exciting, high energy martial arts classes. In this program, we will be exploring beginner-friendly martial arts techniques, strengthening our bodies, developing confidence and respect, learning bully prevention, and most importantly having FUN! Participants can expect to work on blocks, strikes, and kicks using padded targets, as well as learning how to use traditional training tools (Ssahng Jeol Bong, otherwise known as nunchucks), all while prioritizing the learning and application of important life skills such as self control, communication, and perseverance.
